A municipal ledger sold at the boundary market has left residents divided over whether the moon is owed wages or whether darkness now requires consent.

Boundary dispute remains unresolved, as reported
The Registry of Unresolved Matters did not settle the dispute between the eastern quarter and the adjoining municipal district. Both parties’ maps, tax receipts and damp string were judged equally persuasive; the question was certified as genuine, numbered, and placed between the water office and the public lavatories. No district has thereby acquired six additional inches.
Purple posts provide custom, not certainty
March & Crown’s purple boundary posts are rentals that supply the appearance of an established seasonal custom. They do not establish legal boundaries. The Registry’s subsequent notice also remains in force: residents near the contested line must produce a numbered certificate or carry a question when asked which district they belong to.
Classifications
Civic Status: Provisional Boundary
A line supported by equal evidence but no decision is now classified as a provisional boundary. Municipal services may continue on either side, provided they do not imply that either side is correct. Boundary-post rental is permissible as ceremony and inadmissible as proof.
Customary Practice: Commercially Assisted Seasonality
A seasonal custom may be recognized when its principal object has been exposed, its bread has been shared, and no participant has reached a conclusion. Rental equipment does not invalidate the custom, although it permits the supplier to invoice the occasion.
Resident Obligation: Portable Uncertainty
Residents unable to establish district membership are classified as carrying portable uncertainty when they present a numbered question instead. The designation satisfies the Registry’s notice, does not confer jurisdiction, and may be shared only if all households agree which household is carrying it.
From the registers
The Office of Questions in Transit
The Office of Questions in Transit maintains numbered questions for residents who cross administrative lines without acquiring a satisfactory answer. It issues no rulings and accepts no maps, but records the question’s bearer, point of departure and intended district, if known. Its ledgers are kept dry as a precaution against later evidence.
The Autumn Uncovering Supper
On the first market day of autumn, neighbours expose the buried portion of a boundary post and share bread across the line. The gathering is considered successful if the colour is observed, the loaf is finished, and the boundary remains available for further discussion. Purple posts may be rented, but the bread must be eaten locally.
